Summer Experience BEEHIVE
4'x8' Columbus City Schools
Nurtured by Queen Bee Dazzle, the Summer Experience beehive is buzzing with excitement!
This Columbus City School Special Education community sculpture is made up of 400 individual wood honeycombs hand painted by the 2021 Summer Experience students and staff. In addition to Queen Bee Dazzle, 13 worker bees also hover over the beehive to represent a learning community of grades K-12.
Painting a sculpture together as a group project supports the Summer Experience Program learning objectives of friendship, teamwork, and community.
To quote Queen Bee Dazzle, “Honey, the sweetness is in the learning!” She is a member of the Super Art League’s cast of community friends. The sculpture is a collaborative effort designed and built by the Super Art League and The Bee Collective.

Berwick Middle School GLOBAL EMPATHY
5'x10' Columbus City Schools
Global empathy means listening to all the voices on the planet. It is the action of treating all human beings as unique and beautiful pieces of Art. As great listeners, we celebrate what makes us different and we hold each other’s hands when we are mistreated for being different. “Holding Hands” is a large mixed media sculpture of an acrylic globe surrounded by rings of small wooden hands holding up the world. In the spirit of global empathy, 586 Fine Arts Pathway students and teachers from Columbus City Schools Summer Experience 2022 co-created this community sculpture with the Super Art League. The mirror inside of this globe is a reminder for all of us as viewers to see and treat each other as a reflection of ourselves. Global empathy is everyone’s responsibility.
